RE/MAX Country Associates
ECAR 2002 REALTOR® Of The Year

The Ramada Inn in Norwich was the setting for the 2002 REALTOR® Of The Year presentation. Jeanne Fellows, member of the REALTOR® of the Year Committee, presented the award to Linda Wilson, broker/owner of RE/MAX Country Associates in Norwich, CT.
Jeanne Fellows’ remarks that follow announce Norm Krayem as ECAR’s nominee for the CAR REALTOR® of the Year award and explain why Linda is a very deserving recipient of the 2002 REALTOR® of the Year award:

REALTOR® OF THE YEAR – What is it? What is the purpose of naming one? And how does a person become one?

Those questions came up and were asked as part of a process that quite a few of our members recently participated in. Some of you are certainly aware that last month we held a number of Focus Groups in order to facilitate our Strategic Planning Committee’s work. It was during the meetings of these groups that it came to our attention that some of our membership is curious about the REALTOR® of the Year Process.

The REALTOR® of the Year is an Honor of Recognition by ones peers for excellence and commitment in Civic Affairs and Business Accomplishments with an emphasis on dedication and service to the REALTOR® organizations, Real Estate Issues & Advocacy as well as a "generosity of spirit" towards ones fellow REALTOR®s. REALTOR®s of the Year give their time, knowledge and helpfulness freely to support their peers and the progress of our industry at large. We recognize these fine individuals at both the local board level here at ECAR and the state board level at CAR.

The reasons we do this are many, with the most basic one being that the people who are named REALTOR® of the Year – deserve it. The work they do is mostly behind the scenes and very time consuming. The activities they do on a daily basis to earn this recognition are not what they are paid to do. So we reward them because of the gifts they bring to all of us whether we acknowledge them or not.

Any REALTOR® can make a nomination for a fellow REALTOR® to be considered for this great honor. The process begins w/ the membership being canvassed for its nominations. Nomination forms are sent out by mail, handed out at meetings and distributed to office managers and Designated REALTOR®s in an effort to make sure that anyone who wants to nominate someone may as it is an "open nomination process". Then our President appoints a REALTOR® of the Year committee. The individuals who are brought forth by nomination are sent detailed applications to complete which outline the work that each has accomplished and provides the committee a format upon which to make a final selection. The committee reviews all the applications carefully and strives to reach consensus on the one most deserving individual.

The REALTOR® of the Year Committee members appointed this year are:

Celeste Caracausa – Market Realty, LLC
Melinda Carlisle – Pequot Properties
Jeanne Fellows – William Raveis Real Estate
Michael Hodge – Webster Bank
Michael Meehan – RE/MAX Bell Park Realty, Inc
Before we get to today’s main announcement for this year’s ECAR ROTY, it is my pleasure to announce that we have nominated a very worthy individual to be considered for the 2002 STATE ROTY.
This person has donated his time in so many ways for so long that I will just highlight his current involvement here and at the state level: He is serving on the Finance Committee and the Professional Standards Committee. He is the Chairperson of the Technology Committee and the Electronic Data Display Task Force (formerly known as the REALTOR®.com Task Force) He is the Immediate Past-President of ECAR, the President-Elect of ECRIS, and the President of the SE area CID.

At the State level he is a State Director, serves on the Issues Advocacy Committee, and is the Vice Chair of the Legislative & Political Action Committee. He is also the State President-Elect for CID in 2003.

Please join me in congratulating Norm Krayem on his nomination for the State REALTOR® of the Year and giving him our best wishes for his continued success!

Our very deserving REALTOR® of the Year for ECAR is an individual whose involvement in Civic Affairs includes; dedicating time to the American Cancer Society for many years as a participant in fund raisers such as the Relay for Life event and as a volunteer service provider to the community. This person also volunteers for the Special Olympics and has served as Treasurer of the Cub Scouts for 5 years and Treasurer of the Boy Scouts for 3. A member of the Chamber of Commerce for 14 years and someone who agreed to teach Life Management to students at a large area High School.

This person has served the local board on the ROTY Committee for 2 years, Golf Tournament Committee, and on the Executive Officer Retirement Party Committee. Currently serving us on the Grievance Committee, Program Committee and Golf Tournament Committee, this person worked on the Norwich-New London Merger Task Force and served as the MLS Chairperson for one of those MLS boards.

Before the merger this person was a Director for 2 years and then served as an ECAR director for 3 more. After working up through the chairs as ECAR Secretary and ECAR Vice-President, this individual became ECAR President in my early years as a director. Getting to know this person has been a study in how to get difficult jobs done while finding the joy and fun in even the most arduous of tasks. This person always seems willing to lend the helping hand and go out of the way for others. The genuine smile puts the rest of us at ease and her peers always attest to her strength of character.

With 18 years in our business, having earned the GRI, CRS and ABR designations in addition to being named the "RE/MAX of CT Broker of the Year" in 1992, it is with a great deal of respect and pleasure that I announce ECAR’s 2002 REALTOR® of the Year … the broker/owner of RE/MAX Country, Linda Wilson!

Congratulations, Linda and Norm!
