Eastern Connecticut Home Sellers!

We need your help!

Your investment as a homeowner/seller may be negatively impacted by a tax proposal currently being considered by the legislature. We ask that you consider the following information and contact your legislator expressing opposition to the conveyance tax on home sales. REALTORS® in Connecticut have historically opposed ANY conveyance tax (tax on real estate sales), and this year is no exception. Several years ago, the legislature enacted a Statewide increase in the municipal real estate sales tax from .11% to .25%. This tax is supposed to sunset on June 30, 2008. A bill has been introduced in the Legislature to remove the sunset and make the increase permanent.

The Legislature believes that you don’t care about the conveyance tax, but we know that that is not true. There are two actions that you need to take to show them that you do care and that you want them to keep their promise of sunsetting the tax on June 30, 2008:

1.     The Connecticut Association of REALTORS® has launched aggressive effort to convince lawmakers to sunset the extra municipal conveyance tax as scheduled this June. Go to the new CAR website at www.myhouse-mymoney.org to learn more about this unfair tax and to contact your State Senator and Representative. It’s simple and easy to let the legislators know how you feel about this unfair tax. It only takes a few mouse clicks.

2.     Print out a petition that we will be presenting to the Legislature on March 26 and get everyone you know to sign the petition. To access the petition click here. Please return the original petitions to ECAR no later than March 20.

We are counting on you to help us end this unfair tax.

Please take action today!
